Sod goes down over ground that has been prepared for it and over irrigation that is already working. That order is the whole reason a new lawn takes.
Water has to go somewhere. A rock bed set on the line it already wants to take moves it off the lawn and down to the road or the ditch, and it looks like it belongs there.
Trees staked and mulched, beds cut to a line that suits the house, shrubs and grasses set out with room to fill in. The planting is what makes a finished yard read as finished.
Paver fields laid inside cast curbing — straight runs down the centre of a subdivision street, curved islands at a commercial entrance, and inlay work set into the field.
